Mahindra is selling more electric SUVs than its factories can build, and the answer it has settled on is a 50% jump in EV capacity inside the next five months.

The numbers come from Mahindra's Q2 FY27 media interaction, reported by Autocar Professional. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of the auto and farm sectors, put current electric SUV capacity at 8,000 units a month, rising to 12,000 by March 2027. That extra 4,000 on a base of 8,000 is exactly 50%. Petrol and diesel SUV capacity goes from about 60,000 to 70,000 a month over the same stretch, which takes combined SUV capacity to 82,000 a month — 27% above the 64,500 Mahindra opened the financial year with, and up from 68,000 at the end of September.

"We are operating at full capacity or a little more than full capacity," Jejurikar said, per Autocar Professional.

The demand number behind it

Autocar Professional reports Mahindra's electric SUV retail sales came close to 10,000 units in October, against that 8,000-a-month ceiling. The two counts in circulation don't line up, and it's worth saying why: Vahan recorded 8,472 Mahindra registrations in the electric car segment in October, second to Tata's 14,551 in a 36,708-unit market. A company's own retail tally and Vahan registrations are different measures and rarely match.

Either way the direction is the same. In Q2 FY27 Mahindra sold 23,345 electric SUVs — 12.7% of its own SUV volumes against roughly 11% for the industry — and held 23.2% of the electric SUV market by volume and 30.1% by revenue. This is the shortage every EV maker is trying to get into.

5 launches by June 2027, one of them electric

Jejurikar confirmed five launches for the first half of calendar 2027. One is the all-new electric SUV. The rest: a new light commercial vehicle, the Scorpio Lifestyler pickup, a facelift of something already on sale, and the first model on Mahindra's NU_IQ platform. The Scorpio Lifestyler, shown in August 2026, is due by April 2027 starting under ₹19.79 lakh ex-showroom. Mahindra hasn't named the electric SUV; Motoroids has reported it as the production BE.07, internally BO7, on the INGLO platform.

Beyond that, Chakan is set to add 10,000 units a month for NU_IQ, taking SUV capacity to about 92,000 by March 2028. A greenfield plant at Nagpur adds roughly 20,000 a month by the end of H1 FY30 and another 20,000 by H1 FY31, for about 132,000 a month by FY31.

What this means for you

If an XEV 9e or BE 6 is on your list, capacity is the number to follow, not the launch calendar. Nothing here changes supply before March 2027, so those 4,000 extra units a month are the first real loosening — and they arrive just as another electric SUV joins the queue for the same lines. Mahindra hasn't disclosed dealer inventory or waiting periods, so the honest read is that the squeeze eases next financial year, not this one.
