14,225 EV Charging Points: Delhi Beats Its 2026 Target Early

Delhi now has 14,225 EV charging points, and it got there three months before the deadline. The count as of 30 September 2026 is already above the 13,913-point target the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had set for December 2026, as reported by The Indian Express and The Times of India.
For context, Delhi had roughly 2,450 charging points in 2022, per Delhi Transport Department figures cited by Inc42. The network has grown nearly six times since. ElecTree's report carries the same 14,225 and 32,062 figures.
The next target: 32,062 by 2029
Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood has said the city now wants 32,062 Delhi EV charging points by December 2029. That means adding 17,837 more points on top of the September 2026 count.
Sounds like a lot. Here's the simple maths on whether it's doable:
- Points added from January to September 2026: 5,312, or about 590 a month (5,312 ÷ 9)
- Points needed from October 2026 to December 2029: 17,837 over 39 months, or about 457 a month (17,837 ÷ 39)
At this year's pace, Delhi would hit the 2029 goal early. The pace has to hold, of course, and the easy locations tend to get filled first.
One small note from our side: 14,225 is a count of charging points, not stations. One station at a petrol pump or a mall can hold four or five points, so the number of places you can actually drive to is a good deal smaller.
Electric trucks get their own chargers
This is the part that excites us most. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has sanctioned ₹8.9 crore for 10 public charging stations meant only for electric trucks in Delhi. Together they will have 20 chargers rated at 360 kW each, on the CCS-II standard.
For a truck operator, time spent charging is time not earning. Fast, dedicated truck chargers are what make an electric goods vehicle a real business option and not just a pilot project.
Under the Centre's PM E-DRIVE scheme, Delhi has 382 approved charging sites. Of these, 180 have been found suitable for composite chargers of 12 kW, 60 kW and 120 kW, and their details went to the ministry on 8 October.
Why the timing matters
Delhi's EV Policy 2026 says that from 1 January 2027, only electric three-wheelers and N1 goods carriers will be registered in the city. Two-wheelers follow from 1 April 2028. Delivery fleets and auto drivers will need chargers they can count on, and soon.
What this means for you
If you live in Delhi and were holding back on an EV because of "where will I charge?", the answer is getting better month by month. Before you buy, open a charging app and check how many working points sit within 2–3 km of your home and office. Counts on paper are good. A working charger near your parking spot is better.
