River Hits 100 Showrooms. Next Stop: 1,000 by 2030

River Mobility now has 100 showrooms in India, less than three years after it started selling the Indie. The Bengaluru EV maker crossed the River Mobility 100 showrooms mark by opening 10 new outlets at once, per a company statement reported by Autocar Professional.

The new batch leans north and west. Four of the 10 stores are in UP and Rajasthan (Lucknow, Agra, Udaipur, Ajmer), two in Maharashtra (Pune, Navi Mumbai), two on the south-east coast (Chennai, Puducherry), plus Visakhapatnam and Delhi. The company puts its footprint at 65 cities in 12 states, and says it wants 150 stores running by the end of this year, then past 200 by March 2027.

From 75 to 100 in about three months

In August, when River announced its $120 million Series C round, it had a little over 75 stores. By mid-October, when it opened its first store outside India in Kathmandu, Nepal, that number was above 90. Now it's 100.

That's a fast climb, and River says the Series C money is paying for it. Co-founder and CEO Aravind Mani says a stronger "ecosystem", his word for the dealer, service and supply side of the business, is what lets River add stores at roughly double its earlier pace without the ownership experience slipping.

To be fair, River had once aimed for 100 stores by March 2026. It reached the number about seven months late. Our read: a slower, deeper rollout with service in place beats a thin network that leaves owners stranded.

About 8,000 scooters a month, with one model

Speaking at the Kerala Business Summit this week, Mani said River sells around 8,000 scooters a month and holds roughly 3% of the electric two-wheeler market, as reported by The Week and Onmanorama.

What makes that interesting is that River does it with just one product, the Indie. Most brands in the top six run three or more product lines and hundreds more showrooms.

The bigger plan, as Mani laid it out:

  • 200 stores by March 2027
  • 400 stores by March 2028
  • 1,000 stores by March 2030

A second factory in Karnataka is also in the works. Yamaha has invested in River and licensed River's scooter platform too.

What this means for you

If you've liked the Indie's practical, boxy design but there was no River store near you, that's changing, especially in UP, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. Before booking, check two things at the new outlet: whether it has a service bay on site, and how long spare parts take to arrive. A new store is great. A new store that can fix your scooter the same week is better.
